Summary of Duties:

Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the general maintenance and repair of our train, safety equipment, and operation of buggy vehicles. This position is responsible for the basic maintenance of the vehicle, as well as the preventative maintenance required for each vehicle. Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance required. A solid general background of automotive and heavy equipment mechanics.

Additional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prior to train, swamp buggy/vehicle use, check the fluids, and other similar gear associated with each vehicle
  • Be able to analyze if certain equipment needs maintenance
  • Perform any task necessary in maintaining vehicle maintenance and operation
  • Test parts and systems to ensure they are working properly
  • Identify mechanical problems
  • Follow checklists to ensure that all necessary parts are inspected
  • Repair/replace basic parts
  • Be able to identify all parts of vehicles and identify where problem is occurring, if easily identifiable
  • Check all specified safety equipment daily
  • Assisting with any and all Facility park responsibilities, i.e. parking lot, opening/closing park, general park repairs, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have extensive knowledge in gas and diesel engines
  • Experience in the repair of the following: hydraulic pumps, 2 ½ ton military axels, gear boxes, brakes
  • Experience in wiring vehicles and/or buggies
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of guests and staff, by ensuring operation of vehicle
  • Adhere to Gatorland corporate and departmental employment and safety procedures
  • Must enjoy working in an outdoor environment and embrace all of nature’s elements
  • Have the ability to work independently and maintain a positive work ethic
  • Be reliable, flexible, and innovative
  • Must be able to work whenever needed, including weekends, and holidays
  • Excel at working in a team environment
  • Be able to handle multiple jobs simultaneously
  • Maintain a clean and organized work space, as well as personal appearance that coincides with Gatorland’s appearance policy
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Any other duties as required

Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license required, with no history of violations
  • High School or GED equivalency
  • Mechanic certification
